TransLeeds

TransLeeds is a volunteer-led support and advocacy charity dedicated to improving the lives of transgender and non-binary people in Leeds and the surrounding areas. Founded to provide a safe space for those at any stage of their transition, the organisation offers practical assistance, emotional support, and a vibrant social community.

The charity is for anyone who identifies under the trans umbrella (including non-binary, gender-fluid, and gender-questioning individuals), as well as their families, partners, and allies.

Key Services and Initiatives

• Peer Support Groups: They run four monthly in-person peer support sessions tailored to specific identities:
  • First Monday Group: Open to all trans and non-binary people.
  • Non-Binary Group: Held on the second Monday of the month.
  • Trans Fem Group: Held on the third Thursday of the month.
  • Trans Masc Group: Held on the fourth Thursday of the month.
• Social Activities: Beyond support meetings, TransLeeds hosts relaxed social spaces, including a monthly board gaming session (second Sunday) and a coffee/crafting social (fourth Sunday).
• Binder Library: A practical resource providing safe chest-binding options for those who may not be able to afford them or want to try different sizes before purchasing.
• Advocacy & Training: They work to educate local services, employers, and healthcare providers on trans-inclusive practices and support individuals in navigating the transition process.
• Swimming & Gym Sessions: Periodically, they organise private, trans-only fitness sessions to provide a comfortable environment for physical activity.

Community Presence: TransLeeds is a key partner in Leeds First Friday, the UK’s largest day-to-night trans social event, which takes place every first Friday of the month in the city’s Freedom Quarter.
