TransActual is a UK-based, trans-led organisation focused on advocacy, education, and empowerment for the trans and non-binary community. Founded in 2017 by a group of British trans people, the organisation was established as a direct response to increasing media hostility and misinformation. Their mission is to ensure that trans people can live safely, with dignity, and with full access to the healthcare and legal protections they need.
The organisation is specifically for trans and non-binary adults, with a strong commitment to intersectionality. They actively work to amplify the voices of Black trans people and trans People of Colour, as well as those who are disabled or neurodivergent. By ensuring these voices are at the heart of their decision-making, they aim to represent the full diversity of the community.
TransActual focuses on three key areas: improving healthcare experiences, securing legal rights and protections, and challenging transphobia in the media. They provide a wealth of reliable information and resources, ranging from guidance on how to change your name and medical records to briefings for policymakers and journalists. They also run community workshops that empower individuals to understand their rights at work and within the NHS.
Rather than providing crisis support, TransActual works at a systemic level to create long-term change. Through research, political engagement, and community-led campaigns, they strive to build a society where trans identity is respected and where the community has the tools to advocate for themselves.
