If you are looking for a venue that feels like the “living room” of the Gay Village, The Thompson’s Arms is your essential Manchester destination. Located on Sackville Street, right next to the park, we are a historic and traditional pub that prides itself on being one of the most welcoming and down-to-earth spots in the city. We offer a “no-frills, all-fun” sanctuary where the beer is cold, the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is always authentically inclusive.
Our pub is the perfect bridge between the quiet of the afternoon and the high energy of the night. During the day, it’s a favourite spot for locals to relax, enjoy a reasonably priced pint, and catch up on the gossip away from the loud club music. We are a space where community matters, and whether you’re a Village veteran or a first-time visitor, you’ll find yourself part of the family the moment you step through our doors.
At The Thompson’s Arms, we know how to keep the party going. We are legendary for our high-spirited karaoke nights and our dedication to old-school cabaret. We host some of the funniest and most talented drag acts in the North, specialising in the kind of cheeky, interactive comedy that has made the Village world-famous. Whether you’re here for a midweek singalong or a weekend showstopper, we provide a quintessential Manchester experience that is warm, rowdy, and unapologetically queer.

I walked to the entrance of the bar and instantly I was called racial slurs by a drunk group of old men. I simply ignored them and continued to the entrance when I was then touched inappropriately by the bouncer so I decided to walk away and he continued to shout inappropriate comments about me. As I was calling a taxi a man stepped out the bar he looked at the bouncer and then look at me then game me a disgusting look. I looked away and I noticed him and some other drinkers walking towards me so I decided to walk away but they kept following so I ran down the street and waited for my taxi there thankfully it came in time I fear what would have happened if it had came any later I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BAR TO ANYONE FEMALE WHO IS PLANNING ON GOING TO ANY BARS STAY AWAY. 1STAR
Toilets are disgusting. Staff & security are rude.
I mean, this bar has gone downhill since COVID. Bar owner just sat at the bar drinking what little profit there may be… Original DJ back and amazing as usual but possibly too late. Prices okay, but the criwd has gone elsewhere since Covid I feel. No decord change really except the outside sign which has changed to a manner rather than an actual sign…not good Had so much potential pre-Covid. Please Everyone just go to this bar to get it back to what it was!!!!
Unfriendly, unwelcoming bar staff.
