If you are looking for a true icon of Manchester’s heritage, The New Union is an essential landmark in the heart of the Gay Village. Established in 1865 and standing proudly on the corner of Princess Street and Canal Street, we are one of the oldest and most famous LGBTQ+ venues in the world. We offer a unique combination of a historic hotel and a powerhouse showbar, serving as a cornerstone of the community for over 150 years.
Our venue is the definition of a “complete” Village experience. Downstairs, our bar is a celebration of classic showmanship and camaraderie. We are a space where the atmosphere is inclusive, the drinks flow freely, and the history is etched into the very walls. Whether you are a local regular or a visitor arriving for Pride, you’ll find a level of warmth and Mancunian spirit that has made us legendary across the globe.
Entertainment is our lifeblood. The New Union is world-renowned for its cabaret and karaoke, hosting a non-stop rotation of the UK’s most beloved drag artists and vocalists. From our high-energy weekend shows to our spirited midweek sing-alongs, we provide a stage where everyone is part of the performance. Upstairs, our hotel offers comfortable, characterful rooms right in the centre of the action, making us the perfect home base for your Manchester adventure. At The New Union, we don’t just host the party—we are the party.
Very busy but Davie took care of us very well
Been to this place dozens of times, dating back to when it was “the union”. Never had an interview on the door. Never had to justify who I’m with and how we know each other, or if we know each other. Tonight we got the 3rd degree from the door staff. Two of our group were from North Africa. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Inclusive? Only if your identity suits their politics. Never going back there.
Lovely vibe and felt welcome.
one of the bouncers were rude 💔💔💔 don’t go
