KeshetUK is the UK’s only charity dedicated to ensuring that Jewish LGBTQ+ people and their families are fully included and supported in all aspects of Jewish life. Founded in 2011 and becoming a registered charity in 2015, the organisation works across the entire religious and cultural spectrum of the UK Jewish community, from Liberal and Reform movements to Masorti and Orthodox communities.

The organisation is for LGBTQ+ Jewish individuals, their families, and the communal leaders who support them. Their core philosophy is that “no one should have to choose between their Jewish identity and their LGBTQ+ identity.” They act as a bridge, providing the community with the tools and language needed to foster environments where being both Jewish and queer is not just accepted, but celebrated.

Key Services and Initiatives

  • Education & Training: They deliver culturally sensitive inclusion training to teachers, rabbis, youth leaders, and synagogue staff. This helps institutions understand intersectional identities and develop practical strategies for inclusion.
  • Youth Leadership: KeshetUK works extensively with Jewish youth movements and schools to ensure that the next generation grows up in a community that is safe and welcoming. They provide workshops for students and training for those running summer camps.
  • Consultancy & Audits: They offer a bespoke “Consultation Support Service” to help organisations audit their current practices and set long-term goals for better LGBTQ+ representation and safety.
  • Resource Development: The charity produces vital resources, such as the ground-breaking guide The Wellbeing of LGBT+ Pupils, created in partnership with the Chief Rabbi for use in Orthodox Jewish schools.
  • Visibility & Ritual: They provide resources on how to make Jewish lifecycle events and rituals inclusive, ensuring that LGBTQ+ Jews can participate fully in traditional communal milestones.

By working “within the tent” of Jewish life, KeshetUK has successfully opened up thousands of conversations, helping to transform many once-silent spaces into active allies for the LGBTQ+ community.
