Welcome to Basement Sauna, Manchester’s long-standing retreat for gay and bisexual men. Tucked away in the heart of the Northern Quarter, Manchester and just a short walk from the Gay Village, we provide a clean, modern, and discreet space for guys to unwind, socialise, and escape the city’s frantic pace.
We’ve designed our facilities to cater to every mood. If you’re looking to relax, you can enjoy our large traditional sauna, a high-intensity steam room, and our spacious, heated spa pool. For those who want to take a break from the heat, we have a comfortable lounge area where you can grab a coffee or a cold drink and chat with friends or fellow visitors.
Our venue is spread across a large area, including a cinema room and numerous private cabins for when you want some peace. We understand that security is important, so we provide secure lockers and full shower facilities to ensure your visit is completely stress-free from start to finish.
We take great pride in being a key part of Manchester’s vibrant LGBTQ+ scene. Our friendly team is here 24/7 most days of the week, ensuring a warm welcome for everyone, whether you’re a local regular or visiting the city for the first time.

Been there 2 times n i love it
The old man at the reception was so rude and not welcoming. I was visiting with my friends and we thought to enjoy our time here, but he completely ruined our time. We came back to back here for 2 days, both days he gave some reasons to turn us down. First day he said it’s full of people so he can’t take us in the afternoon so we thought it’s Sunday that’s why it’s crowed then we came on Monday afternoon he said that we were carrying big bags so it won’t fit inside the locker so he can’t let us go. Such a shame and I don’t know why no one took any initiative to welcome all types of people.
Sauna with loads of potential , spacious , plenty of rooms and steam working well . But please install the rest of amenities like Bidets and offer flip flops as the price is more expensive than most of saunas in Europe and they already have these amenities. Maybe is an admin issue
I came here on my birthday since its free did £5 for membership but it wasnt a big deal, this is the first time i have experienced a sauna that has a bar but a bit annoyed they didnt have more refreshing snacks other then that i was looking forward to rude staff like the reviews mentioned but no one was rude just professional, i was a bit surprised with all the cameras everywhere but with how the sauna runs things it makes sense i checked out the kinky room if im lucky enough ill bring a date here, snack recommendations (for myself not for you) Those big asian pears, either the peach milk from the chinese supermarket or ayran from the turkish shop near shudehill Since they have small lockers dont come packed, Since ive been coming here so often i would have expected other saunas to be around the same price but its cheaper then the surrounding saunas the fix sauna was like £30 im not paying that like even on the weekdays when its busy its still more cheaper then that thank you basement for spoiling me

12 June 2026Very disappointed in this. Got there to be told that without physical official ID with name, photo and date of birth they wouldn’t let me in. I had the name and photo part but not the date of birth, but given that I am clearly well over any licensing age requirements, this really should have been enough. And they wouldn’t accept a scan or picture of a passport either – who walks around with their physical passport on them in the UK?!
The guy on the desk was dismissive, disinterested and unhelpful to add to the frustration.
If this is all Manchester has to offer, I’ll give the city a miss in future – I’ll stick to London where saunas don’t have this sort of ridiculous and unnecessary policy.
