AKT

AKT (formerly the Albert Kennedy Trust) is a national charity that supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16 to 25 who are facing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. Founded in Manchester in 1989, the organisation was created to ensure that no young person has to choose between having a safe home and being who they are.

The service is specifically for those who have been kicked out of their homes, are at risk of violence, or are “hidden homeless”—which includes sofa-surfing or staying in unsafe places. They understand that coming out or being outed can often lead to family rejection, and they provide a specialist team that understands the unique challenges the LGBTQ+ community faces.

AKT offers a variety of practical services, including help to find emergency accommodation and support in securing long-term, safe housing. When you get in touch, you are often assigned a caseworker who can help you with more than just a roof over your head; they also provide guidance on your finances, employment, and mental well-being.
