Samaritans is a UK-wide charity dedicated to supporting anyone going through a difficult time. They provide a safe, confidential space to talk, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, lonely, or just need to offload, their volunteers are there to listen and offer emotional support without judgment.

For the LGBTQ+ community, Samaritans offers a welcoming environment where you can be exactly who you are. They recognise that navigating identity, facing discrimination, or dealing with family rejection can create unique pressures. Their volunteers are trained to be inclusive, ensuring that your sexuality or gender identity is respected while you talk through what is on your mind.

Their main service is a free telephone helpline that you can call from any phone, even if you have no credit. If you find it easier to express yourself in writing, you can also get in touch via email or by writing a letter. The service is entirely private, and the number will not show up on your phone bill.

You do not have to be in a crisis to reach out; Samaritans are there for any moment when life feels like too much. They won’t tell you what to do or give advice, but they will sit with you in your distress and help you find your own way through it.
